India Travel Guide: Exploring Our Vast Neighbor

India offers one of the most varied travel experiences in the world — from Himalayan hill towns and ancient temples to bustling cities and coastal backwaters. For Bangladeshi travelers, India is also one of the easiest and most familiar international trips, with strong land and air connections and no major language barrier in many regions. Whether you want a quick hill escape, a heritage-focused city tour, or a longer multi-region trip, India has enough variety to fit almost any travel style.

Why Visit India

  • Incredible Diversity — Every region feels like a different country: deserts in Rajasthan, backwaters in Kerala, mountains in the north, and vibrant metros like Delhi and Mumbai
  • Rich History & Architecture — From the Taj Mahal to centuries-old forts, temples, and colonial-era cities
  • Easy Access from Bangladesh — Direct flights and land border crossings make India one of the most convenient outbound trips
  • Something for Every Traveler — Hill stations for cool weather escapes, beaches for relaxation, and cities for culture and shopping
  • Affordable Travel — India remains one of the more budget-friendly international destinations for Bangladeshi travelers

Where to Go & What to See

Darjeeling & Sikkim are the most popular choice for Bangladeshi travelers looking for a quick hill escape. In Darjeeling, don’t miss Tiger Hill at sunrise for views of Kanchenjunga, a ride on the toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage railway), and the tea gardens surrounding the town. Sikkim adds Gangtok’s monasteries, the cable car ride over the city, and, for the more adventurous, trips further north to Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass (permit required).

Kolkata, being close to the border, is often the first stop on an India trip. Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, the Indian Museum, and the old colonial quarter around BBD Bagh are worth a day or two, alongside Kolkata’s well-known food scene — from street food at Park Street to traditional Bengali sweets.

Delhi & Agra form the classic “Golden Triangle” style trip. In Delhi, the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, and India Gate cover the major historical sites, while Agra’s Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are usually visited as a day trip or overnight stay from Delhi.

Kerala offers a completely different pace — houseboat stays on the Alleppey backwaters, tea plantations in Munnar, and beaches in Kovalam or Varkala. It’s a good choice for travelers who want a slower, greener trip rather than a city-heavy itinerary.

Goa rounds out the popular options for a beach-focused break within India, with a mix of lively beaches like Baga and Calangute alongside quieter stretches further south, plus Portuguese-era churches and architecture in Old Goa.

Given India’s size, it’s worth picking one or two regions rather than trying to cover the whole country in a single trip — a Darjeeling-Sikkim hill trip, a Delhi-Agra heritage trip, or a Kolkata-Kerala combination each make for a well-paced, manageable itinerary.

Best Time to Visit

Winter (November to February) is generally the most comfortable time to travel across most of India, with cooler, drier weather in the plains and clearer mountain views in hill regions like Darjeeling and Sikkim. Summers can get quite hot in much of the country, while monsoon season (June-September) brings heavy rain in many regions but is a great time to see the hills at their greenest.

Why Travel to India With TravoWay?

Travel Tips

  • A valid passport and Indian visa are required for Bangladeshi travelers — apply well in advance
  • Carry both cash and cards, as acceptance varies by region and city
  • Regional cuisine varies widely, so it’s worth trying local specialties in each city you visit
  • Distances between regions can be large, so plan travel time realistically if covering more than one area
  • Pack for the season and region you’re visiting — hill areas like Darjeeling and Sikkim can get cold even when the plains are warm

How Long Should You Plan For?

A focused hill trip to Darjeeling and Sikkim typically works well over 5-6 days, giving enough time to travel up, settle into the pace, and cover the main viewpoints without rushing. A Delhi-Agra heritage trip can be done in 4-5 days, while a Kolkata stop combined with either the hills or the Golden Triangle usually adds another 2-3 days. If you’re set on covering more than one region — say, hills and a heritage circuit — plan for at least 8-10 days so travel time between regions doesn’t eat into your sightseeing.
