Thailand Travel Guide: Beaches, Temples, and Bangkok’s Energy

Book your trip or contact us!

Thailand remains one of Southeast Asia’s most popular destinations, and it’s easy to see why — golden temples, island beaches, and a food scene that draws travelers back again and again. Whether you’re after Bangkok’s city energy or the slower pace of the southern islands, Thailand offers a well-rounded trip for almost any traveler, and it’s well-connected with regular direct flights from Dhaka.

Why Visit Thailand

  • A Mix of City and Island Life — Bangkok’s temples and markets paired with island escapes like Phuket and Krabi
  • Famous Street Food — Thailand’s food culture is one of its biggest draws, from night markets to Michelin-recognized street stalls
  • Buddhist Temples & Culture — Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and countless temples across the country
  • Well-Developed Tourism Infrastructure — Easy to get around, with good transport links between cities and islands
  • Options for Every Budget — From backpacker hostels to luxury beach resorts

Where to Go & What to See

Bangkok is where most Thailand trips start. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) are the city’s most iconic sites, while Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) offers striking views, especially at sunset, from across the Chao Phraya River. A boat ride along the river’s canals (khlongs) gives a different perspective on the city, and the Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the largest markets in the world if shopping is on your list. In the evenings, Khao San Road and the rooftop bars around Sukhumvit offer very different sides of Bangkok’s nightlife.

Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, is the most developed of the southern beach destinations — Patong Beach for a livelier scene, or quieter spots like Kata and Karon for a more relaxed stay. Boat trips from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands, with their limestone cliffs and clear water, are one of the most popular day trips in the region.

Krabi offers a quieter, more dramatic alternative to Phuket, known for its limestone karst cliffs, Railay Beach (only reachable by boat), and island-hopping trips to spots like the Four Islands tour. It’s a good choice for travelers who want beach time without Phuket’s larger crowds.

Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, is a completely different experience from the islands — a cultural hub with hundreds of temples, including Wat Phra That Doi Suthep on a hilltop overlooking the city. It’s also known for its night markets, cooking classes, and as a base for visiting nearby ethical elephant sanctuaries and hill tribe villages.

For a well-rounded first trip, many travelers combine Bangkok with one island destination — Bangkok and Phuket, or Bangkok and Krabi — rather than trying to cover the north, Bangkok, and the islands all in one visit.

Best Time to Visit

November to February is generally the best time to visit Thailand, with cooler, drier weather across most of the country. March to May is hot and humid, while the monsoon season (June-October) brings rain, particularly to the western coast — though the eastern islands like Koh Samui see less rainfall during this period.

Travel Tips

  • Bangladeshi travelers can typically get a visa on arrival or apply for an e-visa in advance — check current requirements before booking
  • Thai Baht is the local currency; ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas
  • Dress modestly when visiting temples — shoulders and knees should be covered
  • If combining multiple regions, factor in domestic flights or ferries between Bangkok, the islands, and the north
  • Grab (the ride-hailing app) is widely used and often more convenient than flagging taxis, especially in Bangkok

How Long Should You Plan For?

A Bangkok-focused trip works well over 3-4 days, enough to cover the main temples, markets, and a river cruise without rushing. Adding one island destination — Phuket or Krabi — typically means budgeting 6-7 days total, with 3-4 days in Bangkok and 3-4 days by the sea. If Chiang Mai is part of the plan instead of or alongside the islands, add another 2-3 days, since a short domestic flight from Bangkok usually reaches it. For a trip that covers Bangkok, the north, and an island, plan for at least 9-10 days so each stop gets a fair amount of time.
